Speed Painting and Studies

Group Info

We prepare selections of topics and make speedpaint studies from them.
The next theme will be announced on the 15th of each month.

Everyone is invited. You find a folder for each theme in our gallery.
We expect you to make speedpaint studies - that means you make the study in 2 hours and don't use tracing and the color picker. You can compare your results to the other members and hopefully you give and receive feedback.

You find the references in the Favorites of this group - i wanted to add the references in the galleries but that needs the stock provider to coorporate and some visit their stock very seldom.

As our group grows, so do the onslaught of submissions. Our group is not a portal to promote yourself, but rather a learning study group. If you do not actively participate in challenges or offer helpful feedback to others, dont expect us to accept your art in the non-challenge speed paint study folders.

Important things first:

The whole team wishes you a Happy 2015.
Stay healthy and never lose the fun in painting!

And now to a challenging and hopefully educational year of Speedpaint Studies.

As we were all a bit distracted by new year festivities we decided to go all dictator on you and don't have a poll for the january topic but just choose one instead.
I think it is a first we choose only pictures of one stock artist, but Charfade made so awesome animal pictures recently and it is great material to learn from. It is quite diverse with long hair, short hair, reptile and elephant hide and even feathers and there are a lot of subtle colors to find in it too.

Here's Da Rules

Same rules as always. 2 hour time limit! No tracing! No color picking from the original ref! Figure out your own colors. Make sure you include credit and links where you got your stock photo in the DA description. Not only do most stock provider want to be informed if there pictures are used, but for study reasons referencing to the original source is better for getting crits.

:star: When your done submit it to this folder here: speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c…
Also say a few words on your study in the description. Helps others when commenting on your work. Its always good to take a moment and reflect on your studies so you can better tackle and improve on those areas in the next study.

Common things to answer are:
►What did you learn from doing this study?
►What did you find difficult?
►What area's do you wish to improve on?

As always, if you're participating in these studies, it's highly encouraged to comment on other peoples studies when they get submitted to the group. Sharing advice crits and tips will help each other grow!

That's it! Best of luck this month! We are looking forward to seeing each others studies!

I don't know if it's just me, but I don't see the button to add art to the Eye folder for this month. It shows on every other folder, but it's missing there.

I've given a look and it should be fixed now. Tell me if it's not and thanks for the feed back.

Can anyone help with linking to reference? Seems like it doesn't work now for some reason...
I used just to copy paste url of the reference image but now it's beeing converted to a broken link instead.

Hey Deerbard!

Here is what DA recommends:
Deviation linking

To link to images found on deviantART in your journal please visit the deviation page and in the sidebar to the right under the "share" or "details" header please copy the code that starts with ":thumb:". Once you have copied that :thumb: code you can paste it in to your journal and it will automatically generate a thumbnail image for that deviation when the journal is displayed on site.

If further problems persist, just give me a shout and we will dig further.

Yeah, it doesn't change anything, same problem. It changes for a thumbnail but after I save the picture, there's no thumbnail, just a broken link. Or can you see a thumbnail under my spider study? Maybe it's just what I see as an author? Would be strange anyway.

Forgot to inform - they fixed it. After pasting the link into the description, when the thmbnail shows up, there are two options after mousing over it: change to link or remove. After changing to link everything works fine as it used to.

Hello group!
I have a doubt about the use of brushes, I can use any kind of brush or limitations exist for these?
yinetyang Featured By Owner Sep 17, 2014
Not at all. Any brush can be used.
Indu-Art Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2014
Hi Ysefth, brushes are open.  No limitations, you can use any custom brush you'd like as long as you are having fun :-)
