Its the 15th! and you know what that means! A new speed paint challenge theme! For November you've voted for Master Studies!
But first I want to congratulate those who entered in the Vehicles and Transportation challenge. Give yourself a huge hug and pat on the back. Those were not easy to wrap the head around. The boat was definitely a interesting color challenge, but really fun! I think each one submitted was pretty fantastic. Hopefully you've enjoyed them too!
Alright Master Study month! Never done a master study? Well You've probably heard once or twice artists talking about doing them. The benefits of studying the masters are endless! Form, color theory, values... list goes on. So for this month, for the first time we are opening up the selection to personal choices! We've gone ahead and selected 4 for you in case you were having a hard time choosing. You can do any master study piece from here speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c…
(thank you yinetyang for hosting them) or anywhere on the web! You can check out the google art project for ideas if you wish. www.google.com/culturalinstitu…
If you have other places to get master study refs, please feel free to share them in the comments section! Note: A little edit: I'd like to specify that since old masters have spent litteraly dozen of hours with sometimes very complex scenes for these paintings we don't expect you to "replicate" them in 2 hours, I've uploaded hi-resolution pictures for this challenge so: FEEL FREE TO MAKE A STUDY OF ONLY A FRACTION OF THOSE PAINTINGS. A leg, an hand, a face, a piece of tissue or whatever appealed to you. You'll still have a great benefit by doing this. This month is a challenging one but don't get discouraged! Note: If you do chose to do a master study from an off DA site, include a link in the artists description to the resource ref you used.
We want again to emphasis giving critiques to submitted entries. I know it can be time consuming and difficult finding the right words to say, but its a critical element of success for growing artists. Especially for this theme its ever so important to look at areas to improve on. If you've been in this group a while and haven't met anyone yet, reach out! Seriously, I doubt anyone will bite. ( If they did, I doubt you'll turn into a werewolf ... although werewolf's are pretty cool. ) So as a second mini challenge for this month try get to know someone new in the group! Remember having a study buddie helps to keep you motivated! Feel free to post below in this months comment section with your contact information to get the ball rolling. ^^ Many of us already use Wolkenfels live-stream Study app livestreamstatuslist.appspot.c…
and several of us are on skype. Lets get better about studying together! Art doesn't need to be lonely anymore.
Alright with out further delay, here are this months selected entries!
Here's Da Rules
Same rules as always. 2 hour time limit! No tracing! No color picking from the original ref! Figure out your own colors. Make sure you include credit and links where you got your stock photo in the DA description.
Not only do most stock provider want to be informed if there pictures are used, but for study reasons referencing to the original source is better for getting crits.
When your done submit it to this folder here: speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c…
Also say a few words on your study in the description. Helps others when commenting on your work. Its always good to take a moment and reflect on your studies so you can better tackle and improve on those areas in the next study.
Common things to answer are:
►What did you learn from doing this study?
►What did you find difficult?
►What area's do you wish to improve on?
As always, if you're participating in these studies, it's highly encouraged to comment on other peoples studies when they get submitted to the group. Sharing advice crits and tips will help each other grow!
That's it! Best of luck this month! We are looking forward to seeing each others studies!
