Speed Painting and Studies

Group Info

We prepare selections of topics and make speedpaint studies from them.
The next theme will be announced on the 15th of each month.

Everyone is invited. You find a folder for each theme in our gallery.
We expect you to make speedpaint studies - that means you make the study in 2 hours and don't use tracing and the color picker. You can compare your results to the other members and hopefully you give and receive feedback.

You find the references in the Favorites of this group - i wanted to add the references in the galleries but that needs the stock provider to coorporate and some visit their stock very seldom.

As our group grows, so do the onslaught of submissions. Our group is not a portal to promote yourself, but rather a learning study group. If you do not actively participate in challenges or offer helpful feedback to others, dont expect us to accept your art in the non-challenge speed paint study folders.

Hey speedpainters!

Due to the recent events we thought that France and its beautiful parts would be a good idea as references.
To get the study part into the foreground again we decided to use exterior buildings as second topic.
I hope you all get a bit of architecture, perspective and texture from this challenge.

As always the speedpaint get its whole power from your decisions. You cannot render everything into detail - 2 hours are not enough for that. but you can detail the important parts (for you important) and just suggest the other parts. Choose wisely but chose!

Same rules as always. 2 hour time limit! No tracing! No color picking from the original ref! Figure out your own colors. Make sure you include credit and links where you got your stock photo in the DA description. Not only do most stock provider want to be informed if there pictures are used, but for study reasons referencing to the original source is better for getting crits.

:star: When you're done submit it to this folder here:
Also say a few words on your study in the description. Helps others when commenting on your work. It's always good to take a moment and reflect on your studies so you can better tackle and improve on those areas in the next study.

Common things to answer are:
►What did you learn from doing this study?
►What did you find difficult?
►What area's do you wish to improve on?

As always, if you're participating in these studies, it's highly encouraged to comment on other people's studies when they get submitted to the group. Sharing advice crits and tips will help each other grow!

That's it! Best of luck this month! We are looking forward to seeing each others studies!

Have fun! and let the earth be peaceful one day....

Hey, I just studied one of the photos from "torso" folder. I found it difficult to find a folder where I should upload it now, the structure of folders is changed and I don't see a "torso" folder in the gallery. Help? :)

Haha sorry, my mistake, there has never been such topic :) That explain the lack of the folder.

I took a fast peek and you're right, torso subfolder doesn't exist. ^^ I suppose you could submit it here at speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c… since it's not part of the official challenge. I hope that helps a bit? :)

Hi there :)

So I know that there are certain challenges for the month (that you say will be announced every 15th of the month)  but are we allowed to do other studies besides what the month's specific challenge is? ^^;

Sorry if this is a stupid question  but I was just wondering

Also, are we allowed to use stock pictures not shown in your Fave gallery? If they are free to use as reference by owner?

Yes you are allowed to do other studies besides the ones selected for the challenge. We ask that you include the reference you used to study from as well as what you learned from it in the description. You can submit to this folder here: speedpaintstudies.deviantart.c…

You may use any stock images you please, but make sure the photographer of the stock allows a artist to study from that time. Everyone has different opinions on it so please check with them first. ^^

 Okay got it! Thanks! :tighthug:

Also, one more question: for the monthly speed paint challenges, how many submissions are we allowed to do?

Hi, I'm new to this group and I'm a bit confused about the gallery. They all look empty. Where do I see the submissions for various challenges, etc?
